The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular series coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Fan Response

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
