Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind some of the most iconic looks favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

The industry laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose influence on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
