The former Liverpool manager admits a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell which brought Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the notion that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, that means I might decide later on, who knows. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances would have to unfold to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. The team has suffered four consecutive matches across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and the effect at the club. The forward died tragically in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. It was an incredible shock for his teammates too. No one within the club might employ it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Unbearable.”
