The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will love its presence.

But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
