The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
