Uncovered Exchanges Illustrate Epstein and Larry Summers as Close Associates
Multiple communications between convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein and ex- US finance chief Larry Summers came to light this week, showing the pair served as confidants.
The messages, dating from 2013 to early 2019, demonstrate the two men sharing personal – and at times improper – views on politics and relationships.

During that period, Harvard University was dealing with an acceptance debate after a previously incarcerated woman’s admission to a PhD program. Summers, a former president of the university who lost his position amid a controversy after making sexist comments about women in academia, added in the message to Epstein: I noted that half of the IQ in [the] world was owned by women without stating they are more than 51 percent of the populace.”
Summers was previously a prominent figure in liberal circles – a former treasury secretary in the Clinton administration, one of the primary architects of Barack Obama’s handling to the financial crisis, and a steadfast voice in the left-leaning punditry. But questions have lingered about his connection with Epstein, a long-standing connection of Donald Trump. Epstein was charged with a extensive exploitation operation before his demise in prison in 2019 in New York City.

Epstein donated more than $9m to Harvard and its related programs between 1998 and 2008, and was appointed a visiting fellow to conduct research. The university later determined Epstein “was missing the scholarly credentials visiting fellows typically possess and his application outlined a course of study Epstein was ill-equipped to pursue”.
Harvard only stopped accepting Epstein’s donations after he admitted guilt to child sex offenses in 2008.
At that point Obama’s career was advancing. Summers would eventually receive appointment as director of the White House economic advisory body from January 2009 until November 2010.
After Summers departed the White House, he began asking Epstein for philanthropic advice for his wife, Elisa New, a Harvard professor developing a poetry project. Epstein and his foundations made gifts to projects linked to Summers’s wife, and the two men got together a multiple times between 2013 and 2016, often for dinner.
After media coverage about Epstein’s donations surfaced, New’s charity made a donation “above and beyond” of that received to anti-sex-trafficking organizations.
